'Plugged In' - My project, Plugged In, investigates the growing disconnect between individuals and the natural world in an increasingly digital society. Surrounded by algorithms, social media, and constant streams of information, we have become accustomed to instant gratification and perpetual stimulation. This body of work explores how these behaviours shape our attention, wellbeing, and sense of presence, while questioning what happens when we choose to slow down and reconnect with our surroundings. Through fashion communication, I aim to examine the contrast between the fast-paced nature of digital culture and the more mindful forms of engagement found through movement, nature, and physical experience. Using editorial photography, moving image, and written content, I create visual narratives that explore themes of intentionality, environmental awareness, and psychological stillness. Styling, location, and art direction work together to reflect the tension between distraction and presence, highlighting moments of solitude, reflection, and connection. The imagery seeks to communicate not only the physical experience of being immersed in natural environments but also the emotional and mental clarity that can emerge from those experiences. My work is driven by a belief that fashion communication extends beyond aesthetics and can be used as a platform for cultural conversation and self-exploration. By combining visual storytelling with personal reflection, I hope to encourage audiences to consider their own relationship with technology, attention, and the natural world. Ultimately, Plugged In is an exploration of what we choose to invest our energy in, questioning whether we are truly present in our lives and inviting viewers to reconnect with the world beyond the screen.
