Growing up in theatre and dance, costumes surrounded Gracie’s life from an early age. The power and confidence that came from simply putting on a garment became a driving force for life and for this collection. She believes that every day we put on a costume of the person we present to the world and with this collection she wanted to honour those whose costumes are engrained within their characters. She recalled her fond and fun memories of the circus and wanted to capture the spirit of these performers. Influenced by the clowns, magicians, acrobats and more, she created Les Cirque des Soeurs. Truscott, in life, is deeply inspired by the often looked over members of society. Those unafraid to laugh at themselves to bring joy to others. She noticed that in today's world, people are becoming more isolated and segregated from one another and hold a deep fear of embarrassment within themselves, so she wanted to bring light to more joy driven communities and created families. Circus performers dedicate their entire lives to fun and whimsy and she believes that we should all embrace the clown within and act a fool together. Combining fashion and function, she took historical elements in shape and structure and executed them using sportier fabrics including Sweatshirting and Neoprene. Her hands on, tactical approach included dying, printing and experimental pattern cutting and construction. Her uniqueness and determination within this collection have allowed her to be featured in GFW, nominated for the GFF constructed textiles award and has been featured and reviewed ASBO magazine. Post degree, Truscott is working on developing her own brand, Performance Art, to bring these costumes to the world, for the everyday. https://asbomagazine.com/class-of-2026-3/
