My graduate collection, “Inherited Ground” is rooted in a personal narrative of growing up within an equestrian environment, where belonging was formed before awareness, and discipline was learned through repetition and proximity. The work begins with a moment of inheritance: my name engraved into the concrete at my mum’s stables, anchoring identity to a place I had not yet fully arrived within. The collection explores the body shaped by equestrian life; silhouettes shift between rigidity and softness, echoing the tension between performed composure and moments where that control begins to loosen. Tailoring draws from structured equestrian references while sitting against draped, unexpected forms, creating friction between precision and collapse. Materials are used to translate a personal distance from this world, reworking familiar codes through a more subjective lens. There is a sense of childhood awe that remains present, sitting alongside a quieter awareness of not fully belonging, where riding becomes both discipline and escape.
