Systemic Residue is a menswear collection that explores how the influence of historical systems continues to shape individual identity long after the systems themselves have faded. Rather than focusing on historical events alone, the project examines the invisible traces they leave on the body, behaviour and everyday experience, questioning how clothing can communicate memory, adaptation and resilience. Developed through historical and archival research, the collection translates cultural references into contemporary menswear through tailoring, material experimentation and refined construction. Instead of directly reproducing historical garments, familiar forms are abstracted and reconstructed to create a new visual language. Layered textiles, protective panels and elongated silhouettes evoke the tension between concealment and exposure, structure and vulnerability, reflecting the lasting impact of systemic influence. At the heart of the project is the relationship between research and making. Material, silhouette and construction are treated as narrative tools, allowing garments to embody both physical function and conceptual meaning. By balancing craftsmanship with wearability, Systemic Residue proposes a contemporary approach to menswear that encourages reflection on the relationship between history, identity and the body, while creating garments that remain relevant beyond their original context.
