My practice explores the tension between political, societal, and environmental pressures in my hometown. I translate these systemic imbalances into physical form through innovative garment construction, illustrating the conflict between personal autonomy and external constraints. My work directly addresses the modern pressure to choose sides, recognising that conflicts are rarely black-and-white. I use "shelter" as a central metaphor for neutrality and compassion. With a strong background in knitwear design from my BA program, my technical skills in advanced textile manipulation significantly enhance my ability to create these pieces, allowing me to merge tactile craftsmanship with conceptual depth seamlessly. My contemporary menswear designs incorporate protective shapes and comforting textures that challenge traditional binary narratives, creating wearable spaces. By merging precise garment engineering with emotional storytelling, my collections examine how modern menswear can provide protection, comfort, and a sense of humanity to the wearer; empowering men to appear strong on the outside while remaining soft on the inside. Each piece symbolises resilience, striking a balance between utilitarian masculine structure and a soft, tactile sanctuary. This approach counters the rigid polarisation of our current social landscape, ultimately redefining functional garments as protective emotional pieces.
