Distorting The Conventional

My initial research was about decay and how beautiful something looks when it’s deconstructed by nature. I started looking into decaying art and then into distorted art. This led me to Eduardo Paolozzi: Michelangelo’s ‘David’. He used David’s head, destroyed the cast in pieces, and then attached it back together with glue and pieces of wood and string. Although he attached it in a distorted way it is easily recognizable as the head of David. I wanted to apply the same method using tailored garments by cutting, distorting, and then sewing everything together. No matter how much I deconstructed and cut the coat apart, no matter where I replaced each pattern, the result was still recognizable as a coat/garment. Not only did I cut garments apart, I also used digital technology and collaging to distort their shape for me. Instead of glue, wood, and string I used hooks and eyes.
