An exploration into the extraordinary life of Dorothy Hodgkin, who remains the first and only British female to win the Nobel prize for science. At a time when the role of women centred around beauty and domesticity, Dorothy defied social norms and embarked on a degree in chemistry at Somerville college, leading to decades of discoveries in x-ray crystallography and solving complex chemical structures of penicillin, insulin and vitamin b12. She became the first fellow to start a family whilst in post and the first female at oxford to receive paid maternity leave, continuing her pioneering work whilst becoming a mother and paving the way for other women. As well as being a pre-eminent scientist, she was a determined, kind, humble and generous individual. This project is a celebration of her life.
