The Natural Metropolis

This collection is inspired by gardens, spaces in which there is a fascinating tension between the wild and the cultivated; the project seeks to explore dynamics between structure and wilderness. Beginning in my garden, I am inspired by the arts and crafts design and landscape architecture, the geometry in the flowerbeds and layout as well as the garden as a haven for organic nature. Gardens are a sort of natural metropolis, with sustained ecosystems, and a place for people to interact with the earth. This dialogue of humans within the natural world is inspiring to me, and this project explores embodied practices such as gardening, beekeeping, fruit picking and farming. Creating a collection which is wearable yet highly creative and innovative was central to my entire process. As a designer I place a strong emphasis on functionality and practicality. I intend to produce a thorough range of garments and accessories, making my designs accessible to a wide market.
