‘Bas-relief’ - to describe sculptures cut from stone, wood, metal etc. that stand out from their surroundings. The collection is designed to give the illusion that the body is contorted in a way that they imitate the figurative sculptural forms of artists such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, disguising the bodies’ natural human form and creating an intriguing, multi-layered silhouette. The eye diverts from the curves of the body and is drawn to the areas of skin on the model that would normally be covered for modesty. My practice has taken inspiration from the monumental figures of Moore, whose work often focused on the abstraction of the female form.
