Walking the Hedge

Lydia Highfield

Location: Manchester, UK
University/College: University of Salford Specialisms: Womenswear, Tailoring, Apparel
Lydia joined the University of Salford’s fashion design course to advance her knowledge of the fashion industry. After watching her grandmother work as a seamstress, she knew she also wanted to be involved in the fashion industry. Having discovered a love of construction, pattern cutting and tailoring, in her second year at uni, she got the opportunity to complete work experience, at a local tailor, which she then continued throughout her third year alongside her studies. Away from uni work, Lydia has interests in sewing and crocheting, and often spends her free time creating unique pieces for friends and family. Lydia’s knowledge of sewing techniques has come in handy for another one of her interests in restoring classic car, as is has allowed her to repair car interior trims with the help of her father. Lydia is a hardworking and determined student who wants to continue her studies by completing a MA as well as getting more industry experience at tailors’ workshops.
