Since losing my hearing in 2010 my memory of sound is fading more and more every day making it a somewhat abstract concept. When the surrounding world is quiet, it is hard to be connected with or even grounded within it, partly because our brain links sound directly to our emotional experiences. 'Multisensory Bodies' explores how one can experience sound even if they are unable to hear. I am developing different experiences which translate sound into other stimuli. It has never been about the ability to understand sound from a logical perspective, rather than the emotional dimension. The aim is to develop a garment which translates sound into tactile stimuli, enabling people who are deaf to experience sound without hearing it. I will continue this research during a PhD. I have recently been awarded a £40,000 research grant and am currently looking for further funding. As my portfolio contains moving image please view it here: tinyurl.com/sroeck
