Womenswear designer Alix Simister seeks to create desirable pieces out of seemingly mundane objects associated with domestic chores. Inspired by surrealism and fine art, is a thematic presentation of domesticity, with influence from Chantal Akermans, Jeanne Dielman, 23, Commerce Quay, 1080 Bruxelles. Simister captures how deep-rooted misogyny and the sexualisation of the housewife denatures the value of a woman’s work within the house and daily life. Visually seen through references within the complex pattern cutting.
