Surreality

The concept of Surreality is rooted in the dream like scenes of the Surrealist art movement; with their depiction of subconscious thought and distorted view of reality acting as inspiration for the distortion and disruption of pattern and subject matter. Garments will obscure and exaggerate both the body and typical knitwear construction to achieve the sense of the nearly familiar. The Surrealist’s reimagination of their subject matter is echoed in Surreality’s reimagination of knitwear. Alongside surrealist paintings, Surreality also looks at surrealism applied to installations and architecture which take viewers out of their reality and into the created reality of the designer. My collection explores the line between garment and fabric, and question how far could I take a fabric before it became a garment? The fabrics of my collection have garment details like trims, eyelets, and zips. My part garments are made up of front panels with full trims so they can be hung on the body.
