Together

“Together” addresses the object of power and ownership of oneself. It questions how we can regain confidence and strength after we have been deprived of it. The collection was developed based around the design philosophy that showing skin doesn’t mean sexy and being completely covered doesn’t mean you’re safe. In particular, I’m interested in how the concept of femininity and female beauty has changed over time from the glorification of nudity to rape culture harassment. A victim of rape didn’t “ask for it” and we shouldn’t normalize the fact that women have to live in fear, therefore I aim to put women in a position of power, as opposed to frightened, ashamed, and compromised. The use of technical, rough materials to create feminine ruffles emphasizes that idea and shows that women are strong and powerful.
