Winners

Amelia Chester from Northumbria University and Jessica Madden from the University of Westminster both won a year’s paid internship working alongside the Harrods own label Buying Team on design, development and retail experience. Announced by Marigay McKee, Fashion and Beauty Director of Harrods, during the Heads of Course Seminar 2010, the competition brief was set to give one student the year’s placement.

After a one month training placement, learning different aspects of the Harrods business, Amelia and Jessica presented their final presentation designs to a senior panel of judges including Anne Tyrrell, Chair of the BFC Colleges Council; Caroline Rush, CEO BFC; and Marigay McKee. The panel decided to award the prize to both students as their portfolios, written case studies and final presentations both showed exceptional design ability which also encapsulated the Harrods customer and illustrated product styling that met the customer's needs.

Marigay McKee, Director of Fashion and Beauty, Harrods, said “I am thrilled that through this new initiative in partnership with the BFC, Harrods will offer graduates the opportunity to experience the fashion business first hand. Both of the finalists' presentations perfectly captured the Harrods customer, showing different strengths.  We loved Amelia’s beautiful womenswear illustrations of classics with a twist, whilst we were impressed with Jessica’s commercial childrenswear designs.  Choosing one winner proved impossible, so we decided to offer them both an internship.  We look forward to having them on board.”
