Founded in 2008 by designer and retailer Philip Start, Mr. Start is renowned for specialising in contemporary tailoring for both men and women, with an expanding offering of casual wear and accessories.
A highly regarded industry figure with extensive experience, Philip Start draws from his reputable and extensive experience in retail to provide a modern tailoring aesthetic, one inspired by his understanding of the way men dress. Suits tend to be slim cut, creating a look of casual precision. The ethos is modern and architectural, creating an accessible, everyday elegance.
The brand quickly found success, launching its own store on Shoreditch’s Rivington Street as part of Philip’s START East London boutiques network, along side his men’s and women’s multi brand boutiques. Offering a cutting edge selection of renowned luxury brands the Start boutiques offers designer fashion from both well established international and British brands.
The Mr. Start store has since become a contemporary sartorial destination, providing both ready-to-wear clothing and a made to measure service. Characterized by an informal aesthetic and with signature stylized precision, Mr Start has developed his collections to include casual wear with a soft tailored edge, expanding to include sports shirts, knitwear and separates along with casual outer wear such as bombers, work wear jackets and raincoats.
With a premium wholesale distribution, the brand is stocked at some of the world’s leading stores, such as Harrods and Fenwick in the UK and can be found internationally at East Dane (USA), Printemps, (France), La Maison Simons (Canada), 10 Corso Como (Korea), and Tsvetnoy (Moscow).
Mr. Start showed it’s first collection in AW11 as part of Fashion Week Mens Day, and since has been showing to international press and buyers at the inaugural London Collections: Men.
Mr. Start for Women, a capsule collection of shirting was launched in September 2012. Imparting his graceful and architectural modernity to women's shirts, Mr. Start has created a range of shirts that achieve both the elusive slim fit that is not body conscious and the infinitely easy-to-style boyfriend shirt. Made in the factory that makes the Mr. Start menswear collections, these shirts have a distinctly masculine feel with women still firmly in mind.
