David Pemsel

Appointed BFC Chair in 2022 by former BFC CEO, Caroline Rush CBE, David was most recently Co-Founder and CEO of both ScienceMagic.inc and ScienceMagic.Studios, a strategic and creative company that connected brands and talent to their communities by combining the power of strategic science, creative magic and digital experience. Before that, David was CEO of Guardian Media Group where he was responsible for the digital transformation of the business delivering its first operating profit in 25 years in 2019.

In addition, he was founder and Chairman of GMG Ventures, a $50m fund making early-stage investments in innovative businesses in the media technology sector. Prior to joining GMG, David worked in many senior roles within the media industry, including co-founding Shine Entertainment in 2000, before becoming Group Marketing Director of ITV plc in 2005.

He is a voting member of BAFTA, voted media leader of the year in 2019 and regularly speaks on leadership at the London Business School.
