As part of the BFC’s new strategy, BFC 2030: Access, Creativity, Growth, the organisation has redefined its prizes and programmes to shift from promotion towards sustained, long-term support. As part of this evolution, the BFC has refocused its investment in BFC NEWGEN in partnership with PULL&BEAR to provide deeper and tailored support to a more concentrated cohort of designers. The aim is to move beyond visibility alone and equip emerging designers with the funding, infrastructure, mentorship and industry access needed to nurture creative risk-taking while building businesses capable of long-term growth.
BFC NEWGEN in partnership with PULL&BEAR recipients are selected for their creativity, distinctive aesthetic and innovative approach to design across ready-to-wear and accessories categories. The panel was chaired by Sarah Mower MBE, BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent and Chief Critic, Vogue Runway, and Laura Weir, Chief Executive, British Fashion Council. Panelists included Anna Orsini, British Fashion Council; Christopher Kane, Mulberry; Dickon Bowden, Dover Street Market; Fanta Ouka Diawara, Chanel; Josephine Philips, Sojo; Karen Binns, 10 Magazine; Maria De Los Angeles Serret De Ena, PULL&BEAR; Stavros Karelis, Onassis Foundation; Tamison O'Connor, ELLE.
Laura Weir, Chief Executive, British Fashion Council: “BFC NEWGEN has long been a launchpad for some of the most internationally recognised names in British fashion, supporting emerging designers as they build creatively ambitious and commercially viable businesses. The BFC’s talent support programmes have been refined to ensure support is clear and impact is demonstrable. BFC NEWGEN has evolved to provide stronger designer support and deepened investment at a pivotal stage of growth. We are proud to support this year’s cohort and look forward to seeing their collections presented during London Fashion Week in the BFC NEWGEN showspace this September.”
Sarah Mower MBE, BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent and Chief Critic, Vogue Runway: “Congratulations to the exciting designers we’re welcoming to the NEWGEN scheme. Each of them have the calibre of creative individuality, energy and entrepreneurialism it takes to make London Fashion Week an exhilarating arena for encountering surprising ideas - and great clothes. We’re incredibly grateful to the panellists who’ve given their expertise, mentoring and enthusiasm to the NEWGEN process this year, and over all the years. This generous level of personal commitment and the financial grants, business and legal advice which comes with the BFC NEWGEN programme makes the UK a place where new ways of doing business are constantly emerging and supported. I’m massively grateful to everyone who devotes so much to making this happen together.”
The BFC extends its thanks to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, who continue to support the BFC's NEWGEN scheme, to DLA Piper for their pro-bono legal services, and to RSM for their business management mentoring.
