Through my final year project, I have focused on womenswear by challenging femininity and ‘un-ladylike’ attributes. My collection assembles ideas of blasphemous and punk inspired print, alongside second-hand fabrics, to showcase that ideas of rebellion within womenswear is everlasting. I have followed research from the women hounded by the media for partaking in activities such as taking recreational drugs, smoking, partying and behaving freely, to the views of rebellious women shown through fashion magazines. I have collected second hand jewellery, bottlecaps, fabric, beads and barbies to inform my initial concept research, and then continued to use entirely second-hand curtains and deadstock Craig Green fabric to sew my final collection. By using second hand sheets for my linings, as well as using recycled curtain tassels as design components, I have been able to show a further contrast of how un-suggestive fabrics can be reimagined as something seen as explicit and shocking.
