The BFC is looking for an experienced Corporate Communications Manager to join the team and work on the successful execution of the corporate communications strategy through proactive and reactive media relations, stakeholder engagement, events, crisis communication and issues management. The Manager will play a key role in the BFC Communications Team.


Business Skills
• Development and delivery of corporate communications strategy, working across a portfolio of campaigns to build awareness across multiple stakeholders
• Relationship management of business and corporate media & agencies
• Team management: ability to motivate, manage and develop skills of team to deliver on
individual and organisational KPIs
• Deliver individual tasks whilst maintaining focus on overall objectives
• Demonstrate best practice in managing communications and quality standards
• Drives best practice behaviours and works as part of a team to meet BFC’s objectives and
meet strategy across all pillars and KPI’s
• Strong written and verbal business communications skills, to include copywriting when
• Ability to track, measure and report on successes and failures of campaigns
• Able to project manage and monitor critical paths, managing information flow and
communication as appropriate
• Responsible for financial planning, budgetary control, developing and reviewing budgets
• Monitoring and tracking budget and authorising all payments, ensuring written confirmation
on all budget issues
• Ensures consistency, transparency and adherence to Bribery Act
• Strong attention to detail with perfect formatting

Expertise Skills

 • Generate positive coverage and increase awareness for the BFC Strategic Pillars
• Manage complex, fast-moving, and unexpected communication challenges with high
judgement and professionalism
• Track record of quick response and control in crisis or highly pressured situations
 • Write speeches, letters, press releases, backgrounders, feature stories, talking points, reactive and policy statements. Manage the development, research and dissemination of same
• Establish strong working relationships with editors and influential voices relevant to business, education, political, news desks & broadcast
• Be up to speed on current affairs, preparing briefings on various topics as they arise
• Respond to press inquiries in a timely manner and act as support for press needs to ensure a
comprehensive story.
• Monitor media coverage and summarise accordingly
• Assist with media training where appropriate
• Brief as necessary public and industry interest groups of specific subjects relating to BFC
policies, key team or programmes.

External Stakeholders

 • Establish communications programme and content plans for stakeholders, in appropriate tone of voice, with relevant and timely information. Stakeholders include members, patrons, commercial partners, British Fashion Council network, government, colleges and ambassadors.
• Designer Fact File tone of voice and promotion of new content to stakeholders in partnership with Head of Designer Relations and Membership.
 • Work closely with Head of Government Relations on communication requirements both to government and from government to industry

 • Establish and execute internal communications plan to ensure that all employees have access timely and relevant information, are aware of announcements as they happen and are engaged in the great sense of purpose of the British Fashion Council
 • Manage employee engagement programs that help facilitate knowledge-sharing at all levels of the company. Methods should utilize a diverse mix of communication methods and delivery platforms.

Broader Communications Skills
 • Conceptualise and direct design team on creation of compelling visual assets to support communications goals
 • Contribute to BFC website, Annual Report, copy writing or commissioning and briefing copy writers as appropriate
• Gather engagement analytics and qualitative feedback to measure success of communications initiatives

Maintain and develop positive and strong working relationships with:
• UK & international press and broadcasters, business, education and news editors
• Designers Corporate PR teams
• Government & Mayor of London Communications teams
• Communications team, Brand Partnerships, Designer Relations and Events, BFC sponsors,
• Cultural and business voices relevant to BFC

Requirements & Key Attributes- Skills & Requirements 
• Graduate with 4 to 5 years public relations experience essential
• Strong business writing skills
• Strong knowledge of media relations, press campaign development & execution required
• Existing media relationships
• Experience of team management and development required
• Delivers high level of relationship management and negotiating skills
• Highly driven and results focused with a positive and creative approach and strong work ethic
• Excellent communication skills both face-to-face and on the telephone
• Confidence in level of authority and decision-making skills
• Highly organised with ability to project manage multiple tasks
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Ability to work productively and efficiently with CEOs and VIPs through to assistants
• Pro-active and sociable
• Level-headed, driven, enthusiastic and engaging
• Promotes a positive, professional image in the office and out with clients and contacts

Salary & Benefits
• Job type: full time, permanent
• Salary Band: £30k - £33k, dependant on experience
• Standard company benefits, including 25 days annual holiday
• Standard company working hours, flexibility required during events, exhibitions, etc.
• Confirmation of appointment and eligibility to benefits, subject to successful completion of a 3-month probationary period
