Born in Africa, Jas Sehmbi was uprooted at the tender age of four, to move to India, before finally settling in England in 1970. He completed an art foundation at East Ham College in Stratford and just three months later began retailing small leather and canvas bags. He then went on to designing as well as retailing and opening his first shop in Ilford in 1985. Hugely inspired by the love for leather goods and accessories, Jas travelled to Italy to design and produce a range, which he then imported to the UK and continued to combine his dual creative influences of music and fashion to cultivate and develop the first ever DJ bag. In 1994 he made his first bag by hand receiving substandard deliveries which led to the production of 30,000 nylon bags in six months enabling him to fund his two labels entitled ‘Spaced Out' and ‘W11". In September 2000 his success continued when Barneys and cult fashion store YMC placed orders, which subsequently sold out in the first day. This boom continued in Tranoi in Paris 2001 at both men's and women's shows. Now 12 years on, Jas Sehmbi is a global phenomenon. With over 500 international stockists spanning over twenty-seven countries, Jas- M.B. is creating a buzz as a must have fashion luxury label. Jas M.B. has collaborated with many artists, young designers and established brands, such as Simeon Farrar, Katharine Hmanett, Miharayasuhiro...etc.
