Michael Halpern began his career in New York after graduating with his BA from the Parsons School of Design. After Parsons he was hired immediately by J.Mendel, after which he began working on the design team at Oscar de la Renta.
Michael then decided to embark on a journey to grow his own personal vision and was admitted to the Masters programme at Central Saint Martins in London.
His MA collection garnered a lot of attention and was featured in fashion titles such as AnOther Magazine, Dazed & Confused, LOVE, CR Fashion Book and Self Service. He also caught the attention of Versace, and after graduation Michael was hired to consult on the couture collection, Atelier Versace.
It was during his time at Versace that he developed his eponymous collection, Halpern, which debuted during the AutumnWinter 2017 shows during London Fashion Week. The presentation was a huge success, written up in the New York Times, WWD, Business of Fashion, Vogue Runway, i-D and many other top media outlets.
Halpern's inaugural collection was immediately bought by top international retailers, including Bergdorf Goodman, Matches, Browns, 4510, Maxfield, the Webster and Jeffrey. As of now, Halpern is currently stocked in the aforementioned and leading luxury platform Net a Porter, Club 21 and pioneering department store Selfridges.
The Halpern brand is about unabashed glamour, reimagined embellishment and a sense of hyper femininity with a nod to classical couture. Having dressed the likes of Adwoa Aboah, Marion Cotillard, Amal Clooney, Diane Kruger and Lupita Nyong'o, Michael Halpern has proved himself as a go-to red carpet designer.
In December 2017, during the prestigious Fashion Awards, the British Fashion Council recognised Michael Halpern as the Emerging Talent in their Womenswear category.
