I Guide, Therefore I Am.

During the Summer of 2021 I began to research historical women's movements, specifically, the Girl Guide movement. I viewed the principals and moral code of the Girl Guide movement as an antidote to the mounting pressures put on teenage girls today and wondered why as a society, we don’t support the development of young adults more, instilling a sense of integrity, morality and accountability. I began to study the history of the Girl Guide uniform dating back to 1908. Growing up I always looked at my mother and Nonna as my role models. I would beg my mum to give me her unwanted clothes. The collection will embrace the coming of age, with my own interpretation of Girl Guide badges depicting sexuality, femininity and female empowerment using symbols I have created.
