Shit Poetry

Ruth McGrath is a fashion textiles artist & designer, specialising in print. An open minded and curious creative, she experiments with many genres including art, film, sculpture, styling, literature, photography & drawing to generate ideas. Her graduate collection explores the exhaustive documentation of mundanities, raw, brutal & sometimes ugly honesty & self exposure, diaries & personal thoughts, meditation and endurance. She creates work letting fate be her collaborator; purposefully never fully planning & always allowing change during the process. ‘Shit Poetry’ is Ruth’s visual storyline shown through sculptural textiles. Her focus was to highlight & document the mundanities of her current life situation, displaying the connection she felt with everyday objects, feelings, surroundings & conversations; bus tickets, someone telling her she’s nosey, hanging laundry, scratch cards, her journal, broken headbands & her uncles face.
