Inspiration for ‘In Motion’ draws from ideas of motion and transformation, to create dress that enables the wearer comfort, adaptability, and adjustability. Creating pieces that approach design with a sense of timelessness and slowing down. Whilst the use of minimal colours within the collection acts as crucial reference to initial research of Chronophotography, a Victorian photographic technique of capturing phases of movement. Through fusing elements of the technique with my own photographs, captured at my family allotment, I hope to create contrasts of movement and moments of stillness within the collection. This concept is explored further as knitwear is utilised as a key technique for transformable design within the collection, particularly the use of adjustable ties that can morph the garments into different silhouettes and different sizes. Whilst woven pieces within the collection are designed to be worn on a variety of bodies, restricted less so by gender and sizing.
