Hammerwood Park is where the inspiration for my final collection began. Once owned by the rock band Led Zeppelin in the 70s where it fell to ruins, it was bought in the 80s and began its restoration story. The degradation shows through in sanded walls and doors revealing layers of coloured paint throughout the house’s history. These colours and textures of the house inspired my experiments with textile. As a natural fibre, denim was a perfect canvas for me to distress, dye, and paint onto. Using deadstock yarn and repurposed denim where I could, was important to be able to be as sustainable as possible. The 70s era when Led Zeppelin were in the height of their career inspired much of my knitwear. Looking into the popular fashion of the time in the music scene I focused on the punk trends of mohair jumpers and distressed garments worn by celebrities of the time. My collection The Beauty of Degradation displays the divine of disrepair and the rich history that architecture can hold.
