Conscious Growth

My name is Samara Potter and I’m a final year fashion student from Kingston School of Art. I’m extremely hard working, highly motivated, driven and passionate about my work. My style is feminine and delicate. I love fabric manipulation and knitwear, which has lead me to develop a hand-plaiting technique in my woven and knitted garments throughout my collection. My collection explores my love of fabric manipulation, knitwear and textiles, exploring the shape of the female body. The initial word for the start of my final collection was 'growth'. I find it fascinating how a piece of fabric or yarn can grow into a wearable garment or piece of art, which is what led me to study and be inspired by the growth of Oyster mushrooms, observing their development as beautiful natural forms. As well as their aesthetic qualities, fungi are going to be part of our sustainable future, which will expand further into contemporary fashion.
