To My University Years

Leyre Kyma Molina

Location: Aberdeen, UK
University/College: Gray's School of Art Specialisms: Fashion, Gender Neutral
Leyre Molina, originally from the Basque Country in Spain, has always found interest in capturing her ideas and emotions through her collections. Her practice is mainly based on repurposing used materials to create gender-neutral garments. Today she is showcasing her graduate collection, portraying the emotion provoked by the termination of her university stage. Her work aims to honor and embrace the ending of her university life while accepting it as a cycle coming to an end. A memorial that would celebrate as well as portray the last four years of the artist’s life. To do so, she explores diverse ways of mourning death in different cultures. Mexican Day of the Dead and its memorial altars have been her primary source of inspiration, as they praise endings by celebrating new beginnings at the same time.
