My name is Meerim, and I’m a fashion graduate from Kingston School of Art. Coming from Kyrgyzstan, the land of Nomads, I have been fascinated by the history, lifestyle and habitat of Central Asian citizens, and that laid as foundation for the direction of my graduate collection. My inspiration drew from the idea of nomadic people, people who are in constant move, travelling from one place to another, stepping a foot on one land or other, and despite that it never stopped them from creating a feeling of a home. Carrying their cloth and yurts, they have always found home in the place they stood, on a land they stepped. With the name “JER” which translates from Kyrgyz to “Land”, I wanted to convey my understanding of relations that we share as humans. We are all more or less of a Nomads, who are in constant movement, sharing one big house, a land that we all should feel welcomed at, a place that should feel like a home, no matter where we are and who we are.
