Ashwood Farm was bought by my Great Grandpa in the 1940s and belonged to my family up until 2012. This farm watched my family and I grow up. Reflecting through old images, I became inspired by the workwear my Great Grandpa, Grandpa and Father wore and how this changed over the years. I looked into army wear of the early 1940s, influenced by my family who used to wear surplus army clothing on the farm due to its durability. I wanted to make menswear garments that reflected this; durable, functional & comfortable. My first outfit I made a padded boilersuit to play on the comfort aspect, ensuring it was warm whilst working outdoors, with stitching inspired by ploughing marks and army linings. It’s also multifunctional and can turn into trousers and a reversible jacket that unzips into shorts and a gilet. The jacket features a collaged print on the reverse of some old family photos. Outfit two features deadstock denim, cotton poplin & repurposed textiles, including an old army boilersuit
