‘Been Nowhere, Done Nothin’ is a recollection of my post-adolescence following Covid 19 lockdown, and is a playful exploration of sexuality, gender, and the idea of innocence lost.
The project draws inspiration from Y2K and Harajuku Japanese fashion trends which I believe encapsulates the playfulness and camp qualities I like to portray in my knitwear collection. I am also inspired by subversive themes that dismantle the idea of expected norms.
During research, it became apparent to me that a lot of young people felt trauma coming out of national lockdown, growing up naïve and inexperienced of the outside world. My knitwear collection translates the notion of softness and naivety whilst the styling of the garments is provocative, revealing and aims to challenge preconceived notions of knitwear.
My practice has mostly involved working on domestic knit machines in both fine and chunky gauge, exploring fully fashioning, intarsia and traditional punch card motifs.
