Location: London, UK
University/College: Birmingham City University Specialisms: Womenswear
My name is Kimberley Murch, and I am currently completing my BA (Hons) in Fashion Design at Birmingham City University. I specialise in womenswear, and I am also skilled in bespoke make, as I have interned with The Couture Company in Birmingham. My project has a focus on technical yet complex shapes and details, while also exploring textiles and surface design like tufting and sublimation printing. Originally, this collection was inspired by my heritage of coal mining in Wales, but developed into a focus on the miners strikes in 1984/5. This influenced bold and contrasting prints and the complexity of the textile’s hints at the complex social structure during the time of the strikes. I am a proactive and dedicated creative who has experimented with boxy shapes, inspiration from menswear and working-class garments, while also developing subtle links to my research starting point. I am devoted to developing my skills and experience in the fashion industry with design and make.
