In this collection, I explore my feelings of living abroad while studying since age 16. From high school in America to studying fashion in England, homesickness for friends, family, and Korean cuisine used to overwhelm me. So, I started thinking about my hometown and my childhood memories. Memories of my hometown and its specialty, lanterns, arose. Originating during the Japanese Invasion, lanterns were floated on the river to send regards. They symbolize my emotions while studying abroad. My childhood memories and hometown are evoked by the lanterns. Drawing inspiration from their shape, my project focuses on transparent materials and river-like flow. In addition, the collection embraces hand sewing and waste reduction, cutting fabric waste by 90%. Zero waste and hand sewing promote environmental consciousness, longevity, and personalization. Every stitch is a testament to thoughtful creation.
