WOULD YOU PLEASE LISTEN

Kate Webb

Location: London, UK
University/College: University of Brighton Specialisms: Conceptual Menswear and Womenswear
Conceptual menswear and womenswear designer creating emotive projects which draw on personal experience and the human form. Kate has industry experience interning as a design assistant for Aries, working across fabric manipulation and concept development. The collection WOULD YOU PLEASE LISTEN explores the journey of healing following sexual violence. Surgical imagery including staples, sutures and casts represent a brutal invasion of the body and the ways in which flesh can be held together and the broken body supported. Using plaster casts further separates the body from oneself to portray an unfamiliarity and discomfort in one’s skin. Colour was informed by bruising and developed using natural dyes. In future work Kate wishes to incorporate her interest in lingerie and sportswear to further develop running themes and translate them to differing aesthetics. Following projects will also seek to blend the work from conceptual to commercial products.
