MOTH

Arielle Uno-Ekwang

Location: London/Lagos, UK/Nigeria
University/College: University of Brighton Specialisms: Menswear, Tailoring and Afrofuturism
A stylist, creative director, fashion, and accessories designer with half a decade of fashion experience. Arielle explores Afrofuturism and her Nigerian-British identity, drawing on her textiles and fine art background, she narrates different stories within collections. Through a focus on sustainability her pieces are innovative while using recycled materials combining deadstock fabric and second-hand treasures, influenced by traditional craftsmanship, her heritage and London culture. ‘MOTH’ means the ‘Man of The House’ and this collection explores intergenerational relationships between an immigrant father and son. Inspired by her own father, the collection is a reworking of his helicopter pilot uniform, touching on Nigerian tribal practice and the rites of passage to become a man. The collection expresses the tension and weight of responsibility, between boyhood and manhood, contrasting the culture of the father and son.
