Quiet Commotion

TANYA KOVATCHKA

Location: LONDON, UK
University/College: University of Westminster Specialisms: Print / Textiles/ Womenswear/ Embroidery
Tanya Kovatchka’s graduate collection is an ode to the 1930s linocutters from the Grosvenor School of Modern Art. Discovering that key figures Cyril Power and Sybil Andrews worked and drew inspiration from her home area of Hammersmith, London; this became a highly personal mission to honour them. Drawing on her fine art background, Kovatchka created her own linocuts, prints and embroideries that try to captures the same sense of energy and vibrancy of her 1930s heros. Translated into modern, wearable silhouettes using entirely deadstock fabric and second hand garments, Kovatchka’s collection is a celebration of colour, commotion and the humble print.
