Neither Here Nor There

Having transferred to NTU for my final year, I was able to explore my passion for knitwear design. Using a wide array of techniques and machines, I was able to convey my illustrative style by using knit as a medium to draw with, viewing the body as a form on which to express emotion and meaningful concepts. Viewing clothing as a communicative device, my work strives to convey a message and a personal journey. My contextual research focuses on the meaning of dress and the array of information it can suggest about an individual. This feeds into the textiles in the collection since each knitted fabric is designed to quietly convey the concept. The concept of this collection derives from the idea that people are constantly distancing themselves from being present and are subconsciously uncomfortable with their existence. Somewhere between the futuristic technology and comforting nostalgia, there must be a present feeling within us, this feeling is what the collection aims to discover.
