Inspired by the Andre Kertesz series of photographs called “Distortions” where he explored the female body and distorted it by using a funhouse mirror from a Parisian amusement park. He created almost surreal female body shapes with floating, elongated shoulders, heads, and arms and made the figures particularly ghoulish but also charming and beautiful. I have always been passionate about surrealist art and the beauty of the female body so I wanted to combine these two elements together and create my graduate collection that will portray the hideous beauty. The collection includes overly curved elements and fluctuating shapes, as well as patchwork textiles made out of leftover fabric scraps, aiming to achieve a zero-waste collection.
