Chromophobia

Queer menswear designer interested in the subversion of traditional menswear with industry experience interning with designer Ed Curtis and at the brand Aries Arise. ‘Chromophobia’ is a menswear collection exploring the nostalgia of childhood toys and television shows, using WW1 military attire as the initial reference point of each garment as the idea of the traditional military man is seen as the epitome of masculinity. Exaggerating the silhouettes and using fabrics such as PVC and faux fur to create ‘monsters’ from the human body, the bright and youthful primary colour palette was key in incorporating a childlike sense of fun into the collection. The word ‘Chromophobia’ itself refers to western society’s fear of the colourful as colour is often viewed as something feminine, infantile, rebellious, or queer.
