CONVERGE

I have always been fascinated by North African culture and dress. My BA collection began with images of North African headdresses and Egyptian sculptures. A beautiful sculpture of Nefertiti (the Amara Queen) became a focal point of inspiration for my final collection, fuelling an aspiration to re-sculpt and redefine the body. My collection came to life when experimenting on the stand with channels of boning sewn into sheer jersey, morphing and manipulating it on and around the body by gathering to create tension and intense areas on the body. Experimenting with solely boning was also a key element to design development, twisting and draping large volumes of boning to partly cover and expose parts of the body whilst creating drape in unconventional ways.
