I am a sustainable fashion designer with industry experience at Palmer//Harding and KillStar. Blinkered was designed for a brand I developed called Salv/edge inspired by ancient Japanese approaches; Wabi Sabi an aesthetic appreciation for the passage of time and its impacts on the world around us and Kintsugi, an art form derived from this approach where broken ceramics are mended with gold to celebrate damage they have undergone. I approached my collection with this mindset sourcing deadstock materials to revive them using gold thread and trimmings. Silhouette and construction was influenced by horse blinkers and falconry masks as tools used to control and restrict the wearer, a metaphor for the technological blinkers our phones have become through how they influence and restrict our reality. I developed print in collaboration with photography student, Ben Stezaker using the Cyanotype process and collaborated with student, Joseph Humphries to develop the weave for a dress.
