Everted Anatomy

My final collection takes inspiration from human anatomy - an exploration from the tips of the epidermis to the inner cellular structures of our bodies. Early in my research I used collage to inform shape and colour, using cut-outs in an articulated form of collage that enabled interactive movement on the page. X-rays and MRI scans also helped inform the textural and the detail within my textile collection. Processes have predominantly involved the deconstruction/reconstruction of found materials, from burnt and sanded embellishment to slashes and surgical stitches, I have tried to interpret the qualities found within my research from historical medical journals. It was important to have a responsible and sustainable approach for my final collection, therefore all materials used are either deadstock or waste selvedge from the textile industry, combined to create a modern collection of slimline menswear pieces that reflect medical processes and procedures.
