Grace Tayo is a menswear designer, specialising in knitwear. TAYO is a menswear collection using deadstock sewing machine thread and deadstock yarn to create unique knitted colours and textures. Starting with Miles Davis as a muse, the collection explored other elements of jazz, taking inspiration from the concert/show posters used to advertise upcoming performances. The graphic nature of the posters such as the bold text, shapes, and colour combinations became a key influence on the palette and visual language of the collection. The knitwear was developed by experimenting with different yarn weights, types and machine tension. With the focus being on texture and colour, the silhouette of the collection was soft men's tailoring elevated by carefully selected fabrics to both harmonise and contrast with the knitwear.
