Location: Leeds, Unitied Kingdom
University/College: Leeds Arts University Specialisms: Womenswear
Georgia Fulop is a contemporary womenswear designer, whose practice pushes the boundaries of ready-to-wear fashion and wearable art. A recent graduate from Leeds Arts University, Georgia likes to experiment with avant garde fashion, bringing it to a mass market through innovative play on shapes and silhouettes. Georgia takes inspiration from the life around her, whether that be her studies in psychology, to the history of UK rave culture. Her first collection 'Insomnium', narrates the story of a woman trapped in her nightmares, inspired from the symbolism within nightmares from psychologist Carl Jung's analysis of dreams, from the perspective of a woman. An exploration of the history of our female ancestors sits at the heart of the collection, focusing on tragedies like the witch trials and the burning of Joan of Arc, as well as the monsters and dragons drawn in the fairytales. Each garment features a large exaggerated silhouette which symbolises being smothered within the nightmare.
