My final collection ‘Functional Beings’ delves into the concept of functionality, taking inspiration from hiking and mountaineering culture and its history. I chose to research these specific areas, as an individual I have always had a keen interest in functional fashion, exploring new and innovative technologies in both the fashion and design world. Also, being interested in the outdoors, whether going on hikes or exploring new terrains, my concept of functional beings ties both themes together, allowing me to design and manufacture functional, innovative garments. Within my concept, I also explore the ideas of multi-functional and detachable elements within my garments to further incorporate functionality into my collection. Using these features alongside innovative fabrics and techniques has allowed me to create well-constructed, functional garments that take inspiration from the history of mountaineering in a modern, contemporary way.
