Diana Perova is a womenswear designer from Moscow, Russia, based in London and currently completing her BA degree at Kingston School of Art. Being a child she was always fascinated by western culture and, obviously, fashion. All her memories are firmly bound with her mother getting western designer garments and her choices were always quite bold. This is where her inspiration comes from – feminine boudoir; being, probably, “over-prepared”; extreme glam at the post-soviet period. Specialising in womenswear, her practice explores the image of an “urban crazy” and at the same time rather formally dressed woman. Her aim is to deconstruct clichés by exaggerating and taking those clichés to the extreme levels with a pinch of humorous attitude. Using meaningful objects, memories and nostalgia is something that helps me to develop symbolic storylines in my projects.
