This collection pays homage to the pit bonk wenches, resilient women from the Black Country, where I am from. Inspired by their workwear, I merge hyper-femininity with masculinity, using their practice of tucking their long skirts into their jeans as a foundation. Using robust fabrics like denim and cotton drill allowed me to transform feminine silhouettes into sturdy, contemporary pieces whilst complex pattern manipulation creates layers, capturing the skirt's graceful drape when tucked up. Workwear details like double topstitching add durability that womenswear often does not possess. Through captivating visuals reminiscent of historical portraits, the campaign showcases these remarkable women taking centre stage, liberated from past constraints. My goal is to honour their legacy, inspire others, and preserve the Black Country's heritage in a contemporary fashion narrative.
