FEATHERLESS BIPED

Georgia Rand is a gender-neutral designer with primary aims to celebrate queer culture and story. As a response to the intersection of transphobia and misogyny, the intention came about to explore diverse queer and specifically genderqueer expression as a means to combat the oppressive dictatorship of patriarchal beauty standards in fashion: Featherless Biped is a collection focussing on resisting social gender standards and elevating genderqueer expression. The name is a comical reference to Diogenes' resistance to Plato's attempted definition of a man reminding us not to take social gender norms too seriously and that gender is more complex and layered than the current binary dictated by the patriarchy. The collection was created to be politically provocative and calls on queer associated communities such as drag, punk and kink to achieve a satiresation of gender and beauty standards and includes features in which masculinity and femininity are clearly present but not defining.
